چکیده

In the region from arterial trunks to pial arterioles anatomical characteristics of the cerebral artery as revealed by quantitative treatment of the arterial cast consist in the predominance of the length of large arterial branches over that of the arterioles. Theoretical analysis of blood pressure drop based on the above result demonstrates a large pressure drop in the region of large arterial branches and a relatively insignificant role of the arteriolar region in providing a resistance to cerebral blood flow. Distinct differences in the evaluated intravascular blood pressure gradient are found among different arterial groups. The medullary artery is characterized by a pronounced pressure drop on account of the extreme length of intramedullary

Inhibition of atherosclerosis associated with reduction of arterial intramural stress in rabbits.

Atherosclerotic lesions commonly develop at arterial branch sites, which are also the sites of high arterial intramural stress produced by intraluminal pressure. We investigated the effect of reduced intramural stress on the development of atherosclerotic lesions. We exposed the origin of the left renal artery in five rabbits and the aortic bifurcation in another five, lowered the mean arterial...

Effect of Disinfection on the Surface Roughness of Dental Casts Retrieved from Addition Silicone Impressions

Background and aim: Changes in the physical properties of casts retrieved from disinfected impressions are a common problem in the fabrication of dental prostheses. However, there are limited data available about the effect of disinfecting solutions on the surface roughness of casts. This study aimed to assess the surface roughness of casts retrieved from addition silicone impressions disinfect...

Proportional analysis of pig kidney arterial segments: differences from the human kidney.

PURPOSE To present a systematic study and a proportional analysis of the arterial segments of the pig kidney. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty-one three-dimensional endocasts of the arterial segments of pig kidneys were studied. Each segment was injected with a resin of a different color. Cavalieri's principle was used to calculate the volume of each renal segment, and these results were compared ...

Quantitative morphology of human retrolaminar optic nerve vasculature.

PURPOSE To quantify the variation in the blood supply of the retrolaminar optic nerve in humans. The retrolaminar anterior optic nerve is supplied by an elliptical arterial "circle" of Haller and Zinn formed by anastomoses around the optic nerve between medial and lateral paraoptic short posterior ciliary arteries (PO-SPCAs). The frequency with which complete perioptic nerve arteriolar anastomo...

Scaling of myocardial mass to flow and morphometry of coronary arteries.

There is no doubt that scaling relations exist between myocardial mass and morphometry of coronary vasculature. The purpose of this study is to quantify several morphological (diameter, length, and volume) and functional (flow) parameters of the coronary arterial tree in relation to myocardial mass. Eight normal porcine hearts of 117-244 g (mean of 177.5 +/- 32.7) were used in this study. Vario...
